From Village School to Arctic Village
The story of Arctic Aurora Adventures begins in a historic former village school in Rautuskylä, built in 1951. For decades, the building served as a gathering place for the local community and remains an important part of the area’s history.
Today, the setting has a new life as part of Arctic Aurora Adventures — an Arctic Village surrounded by forest and set beside the frozen Lake Rautusjärvi, just 15 minutes from Levi.
Here, the focus is on experiencing Lapland: watching the northern sky from the lakeside, enjoying warm yurts and choosing seasonal activities according to the current program.
The old village school remains part of the story, while a new Arctic experience has grown around it.

Thanks to its prominent position along the Inari road, the building became a local landmark. In 1984, its rear wing was reconstructed. Today, the building is listed as a protected heritage site (sr-1-2) in the local zoning plan under the name “Leirilä – Old School”, due to its architectural, historical, and cultural value.
